I knew I wanted the holidays to feel a little extra special at the Trotta house this year but I didn’t know where to begin. A few years ago I saw an image on Pinterest and fell in love…it was a simple staircase covered in lush garland with three perfectly tied ivory velvet bows. I loved the simplicity of it all and how it still felt festive! We have spent so much time at home this year that “decking the halls” felt like a must! So when The Finish reached out I knew exactly what I wanted to do!

The Finish took my vision and executed it beautifully. I really wanted the look to be minimal and elegant and also feel like me. They sourced the perfect shade of blush for our ribbons and added sprigs of fresh juniper to the garland. We used pieces I already had like the stockings, stocking holders, and candles, and added elements like the mirror and Josh Young print. I love how everything turned out and I couldn’t be happier! Every morning I walk into our living room with a smile on my face because it looks (and smells) great:)

Want to use The Finish but don’t live in Fairfield County? No problem! for $50 you can book a virtual consultation and The Finish will help you execute your dream project from afar!

Stephanie’s {from the finish} Tips

spray live garland once every 1-2 days to keep it fresh and prevent it from drying out

when hanging garland over mantle: lay it in place and then cut it in the center. Reattach on of the bottom ends to the top center so each piece cascades downward. If you don’t do this one side will fan out and you won’t have a symmetrical look!

Fake it! You don’t have to use all real. Pop a little faux eucalyptus or juniper berries into your garland to make it look more full and lush

MINI WOODLAND CHRISTMAS TREE PACKAGE

The Boys absolutely loved decorating their mini tree this year! I love that this will be a new tradition for us and they can have it to look forward to for years to come. Best part? All of the ornaments are kid-friendly! The Finish thinks of everything! I’m also obsessed with this Winter Wonderland version!

TROTTA HOUSE: OUR LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM

Decorating a small space can be just as difficult as a big one. This summer it will be three years that we’ve lived in our home. If I have one piece of advice it is to take your time! There is no rush. Don’t just buy pieces because you need to, collect them. Of course there are places where you won’t be able to wait as long but overall I’m happy that the Trotta House is a work in progress and I still love everything we bought 3 years ago. Here are some other tips for decorating in smaller spaces:

Neutrals- I love a neutral wardrobe and styling my home is no different. Having a monochromatic palette helps to create a calm space and will also make it appear bigger.

Storage - one of the hardest parts of of having a small room is storage….where do I put all my stuff?? We love using these belly baskets throughout our home making it easy to tidy up quickly. baskets are also great for storing extra pillows and blankets.

Texture - When styling with neutrals, texture is key. I love incorporating this element by adding linen or wool throw pillows like this one.

Nature - bringing natural elements like plants and flowers into a space is really important. It creates warmth and good energy. This can be as simple as spending less than $10 a week on grocery store fillers. They’re my favorite! Invest in vases and vessels that feel like art for a styled look.

scent - first impression when you walk into room…the look and the smell! I always have our diffuser on or will light a candle if i’m going to be in the space for a while. This scent is one of my favorites because it’s very light and also non-toxic.

Accessories can really make a space. Using items like trays, objects, and books, are essential to creating a warm and cozy environment. I discovered Bloomist about a year ago and fell in love with everything! So when I was ready to start styling our space I knew I wanted to work with them and IMMEDIATELY reached out. Not only does their neutral aesthetic align with my own, their ethos and commitment to sustainability are unique in this space and an inspiration. They work mostly with small artisans which means when you purchase from bloomist you are supporting two small businesses. Today I’m so excited to offer a special discount for my followers. Use code TGG15 to receive 15% off your order or TGG25 for $25 off a $100 order.
