the people who have shaped my style
MM
The tapestry that hangs in our living room is one of my most cherished possessions. I’ve only ever seen a handful of her photos and pieced together a few stories over the years, but still somehow she has shaped who I am today. She was a creative, loved painting, nature, and animals, I’ve always tried to link myself to her throughout the years, draw on our similarities, and use them to write the story of “where I cam from”. She died at the young age of 36 but she still lives on in me and in my home every day. In my head I refer to her as MM (her maiden initials on a pinky ring of hers that I wear) because it feels strange to use the title of Grandmother for a woman who will forever be in her 30’s. I’ve heard stories of how she had a mini breakdown finishing this tapestry. If only she knew how much it would be cherished one day, 70 years later, and an ocean away.
